ANYmal is a quadruped robot developed at ETH Zurich and commercialized by ANYbotics. Unlike Spot's general-purpose design, ANYmal is laser-focused on autonomous industrial inspection. It can walk through industrial environments, climb stairs, navigate obstacles, and use integrated sensors to read gauges, detect thermal anomalies, listen for mechanical issues, and sniff for gas leaks. ANYmal operates fully autonomously — it follows pre-programmed inspection routes without a human operator. It has been deployed at offshore oil platforms, power plants, and chemical facilities across Europe. ANYbotics raised over $50M and is one of the most commercially advanced quadruped companies.
ANYmal is a direct competitor/analog for IM's potential industrial robotics play. It shows that quadrupeds can succeed commercially by focusing on a specific vertical (industrial inspection) rather than being general-purpose.
